Throughout 2019-20, Quality Start Riverside County – Riverside’s Quality Rating and Improvement System for early care and education – had been engaging in discussions about program model changes to align with sustainability efforts and provider needs. When the COVID-19 outbreak caused the sudden closure and uncertain re-opening of childcare sites in Riverside County, QSRC prioritized ensuring that program changes and provider supports matched the most urgent needs of providers and families in the county.
Key activities of this partnership:
- Survey creation
- Data analysis
- Data visualization
- Data reporting
VIVA worked with the QSRC team to develop a focused survey that captured the challenges facing childcare providers, as well as the families they serve, during this time. VIVA distributed the surveys in both English and Spanish and analyzed results from over 200 childcare providers. VIVA leveraged Tableau for data analysis and summarized findings in a presentation. VIVA used the presentation as a platform to walk the client through findings and facilitate a discussion around implications. The facilitated discussion about survey findings included QSRC coaches who will directly apply the findings to develop appropriate coaching supports for providers. It was also a first step in VIVA’s work facilitating a process for QSRC leaders and stakeholders to leverage data for decision making and allocation of resources to most effectively support providers across the county.
